Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
"Getting the War Out" Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is not a "mental illness." It's the aftermath of overwhelming trauma that becomes frozen in the body until resolved and discharged, so that the body's systems can reset themselves out of "fight-or-flight," and return to normal functioning. Soldiers returning from war, women who have suffered abuse, and many others are trauma victims. The use of psychoactive drugs and "talk therapies" have proven insufficient to address PTSD and its resulting coping issues (i.e., addictions, more abuse, etc.). Breathing work and Integral Breathwork are discussed here as viable solutions under trained practitioners, as well as the pioneering somatic-experience work of Dr. Peter Levine, and other natural approaches, such as EMDR, RET, and Constellations Work. Case histories and stories are included.
