For 20-30 years I have been interested in the healthy aspect of the the electrically charged "life force" properties of air and water. Those electric properties are called ions. The "positive" ones are unhealthy. The negative ions are the healthy ones. This electrical life force of the air we breathe, along with adequate or extra oxygen is often what makes the difference between really living and merely surviving. Both positive and negative ions occur naturally in the air. However, the environment we live in today has far more sources of positive ions (air conditioning machines and ducts for example) than in the past, creating an electrical imbalance in the air, water and our bodies. This is often referred to as free radicals. Free radicals are highly reactive, imbalanced molecules that are the byproducts of normal metabolism and are also associated with the human aging process. Free radicals borrow electrons from stabile cells to neutralize their own charge, causing cellular damage and can cause or worsen almost any malady possible including respiratory issues. Just the opposite of what oxygen does in its ability to bring cells back to life, positive ions take away the healthy parts to feed their need for life force. Kind of like a positive energy vampire sucking our vitality. Free radicals sources.
They can damage cells and are often thought of as a contributor to the deterioration of our physical and emotional well being. In 1984, a study was published in the "Journal of Abnormal Child Psychology" named, "Negative Air Ionization Improves Memory and Attention in Learning-Disabled and Mentally Retarded Children." The effectiveness of negative ions on mental performance was tested by researching the power of negative ions to improve the cognitive abilities of mentally handicapped children, as well as the abilities of normal children. When water is sprayed, waves of hydrogen negative ions are released, purifying the air around us, killing bacteria, and increasing our energy level, especially in the presence of the sun. Let children play outside as much as possible to benefit from the proximity of water and sun. Well I knew all this but never got around to finding anything that worked as well as a walk along the beach or standing under a waterfall or next to a fast moving large river on a warm clear sunny day, or a walk in the tree studded mountains with a cool breeze blowing. I'd tried many ion generators over the years and was never really convinced they did any good compared to the natural versions of ocean, rivers and copious high mountain trees. The ion breeze from the tiny table top units seemed a toy compared to an industrial sized one I saw in some multiple chemically sensitive people's home in Berkeley California that blackened the entire wall behind it. But it was so expensive I never even considered getting one. I moved to the North Carolina mountains soon thereafter and the altitude and fresh naturally ionized air made me forget about negative ions because I was living with them. I had actually forgotten how important they are. Ah what we too soon take for granted. But alas I moved to the sea level Piedmont flatlands in Charlotte, North Carolina. For several years I suspected the mountains, rivers and oceans were a better place to be but I had no idea how to re-create that environment and my lifestyle had moved me to Charlotte to allow for more contact with close friends and clients. Well a few weeks ago I happened by a stack of ion generators in Sam's club. 4 feet tall and $49.00. Hmmmmm! Seemed cheap enough and I trust a lot of what Sam's club has to offer so I bought one on spec. Took it to my home office and in a few hours noticed my mood lifting a little; my brain getting clearer Hmmmmm. Moved it to the bedroom and the next morning woke up to a feeling almost as good as I used to after sleeping on my porch in the Great Smokies. What a revelation. There was a slightly cooler breeze from the unit but it was not just the cooled air being re-circulated, it now had a sense of vitality to it. Got another one for the office and forgot to turn the bedroom one on one night. Woke up to a heavy aired atmosphere. Turned it on and in a few minutes my brain felt refreshed. The name of the unit I bought is LASKO TF2 4824 for $49.00. It is I discovered exclusive to Sam's Club. I learned that they are quite popular and Sam's runs out of them and has to restock. It is a new unit and not a discontinued one. I was preparing for surgery www.envoymedical.com and got caught up in my enthusiasm and was in too much a hurry to get this published. As a consequence I forgot to double check availability assuming LASKO would have easy access to the unit I bought. I later called www.Laskoproducts.com 610.692.7400 Eastern time for other suppliers. They told me that www.target.com carries (online only) the 4820 for $70.00 which is the equivalent of the 4824. I ordered one and it seems identical save color and slightly different buttons than the 4824. So if you are not a Sam's Club member go to www.target.com and type in 4820 and it should go to the "Lasko Extra Air Tower with Remote." If not then call Target. I now have three. One in each of the den, home office and bedroom. There are larger whole house units that are considerably more expensive but I have not had time or money to research that. If you do let me know.negativeions@breathing.com
A subscriber tells me that "Both
Amazon and Buy.com have the 4820 for a little less than $60 shipped.
I have $4 in savings from Buy.com available near the middle of the
month. I did a search on Lasko & 4820, and I use price blink (which
showed all the prices)." Another added.
about negative ion. ?? Susan I know. dumb. but the box has it on it. The more negative ions the better. This negative is VERY POSITIVE. http://www.negativeiongenerators.com/ultraviolet.html
Himalayan Salt Lamps help as well but not nearly as much as the
ionization Oxygen for health and well being Keep breathing!
