Optimal Breathing
Practitioner Curriculum Overview

Leading Edge Touch and Non Touch Methods to Rapidly Develop Natural Mechanical Breathing Function

School Brochure pdf    OB Fundamentals 1/2 day to 7 day Training. PDF of Scheduling

Become expert in a field few health professionals clearly understand. Put the whole back in holistic.

"Example is not the main thing in influencing others, it is the only thing."   - Albert Schweitzer

"To teach others to breathe optimally you must first learn yourself."  -Michael Grant White

The Optimal Breathing School is a worldwide training-certification program in proprietary touch and non-touch methods to rapidly develop natural breathing in your self, clients, patients, friends and loved ones, without inflicting pain, drugs or surgery. The primary purpose of this school is to train leading edge traditional and alternative modality practitioners plus those interested in breathing development as a support for themselves, friends or loved ones. However at present ALL are welcome. All hours comprising these levels of training may be applied towards the 1,000 hour OBDTT Teacher Training requirement.

Because breath is life, its secondary goal is to create a community of those that breathe optimally. This includes students and practitioners who will carry forward the teaching of Optimal Breathing.

Optimal Breathing is a developable skill. When you approach breathing as a skill you can learn key ways that tell you if your or YOUR students are just feeling better momentarily or has something lasting really occurred?

"There are no new fundamentals." Vince Lombardi
"It's the same with breathing." Michael Grant White

Breathing Exercises? Optimal Breathing is not so much about breathing exercises. We employ a few but we have found that "breathing exercises" mean many things to many people and as a grouping is a poupouri of good, mediocre, bad, confusing and outright dangerously unhealthy ways for using the breath and breathing.  We carefully choose what breathing exercises we DO employ based upon physical function, form and the health, vitality, peak performance, self expression, emotional balance and life extension goals of our students.

4-56 CEU contact hours for Massage Therapists

4-56 CEU hours from the American Naturopathic Certification Board

Dear Mike, After taking the on-line breathing test, watching your video 176, and beginning to read  your Secrets of Optimal Natural Breathing, I continue to see such potential from your approach!  I have begun to feel some changes in my breathing after just a few practice sessions, and questions keep coming to me.  I am a nurse-nutritionist, and believe that your approach could easily become the heart of my professional practice. Could you send some details regarding your certification process, including cost?  I am interested in the upcoming initial training in June, for starters. Thank you very much!   Joelle H

Non health professionals
The OBDSA and OBDS trainings are designed around anyone interested in improving the way they breathe. Caregivers as well.

Health Professionals and others who will benefit from this training
Massage Therapists*, Naturopaths, Occupational Therapists, Bodyworkers, Personal Trainers, Medical Doctors, Nurses, Nursing Assistants, Chiropractors, Osteopaths, Physical therapists, Psychotherapists, Respiratory Therapists, Speech therapists, Speech pathologists, Voice and singing teachers, Transformational breathworkers including Reichian, Rebirthing, Radiance, Hypnotherapists, Radix, & Holotropic; Yoga, Chi kung (Qi Gong) teachers and students, Hard and soft style martial artists, Alexander work, Feldenkrais, Butoh, Pilates (aka Pilates), Tai Chi &  Kinesiology & anyone who can breathe.

Massage Therapists
Most massage therapists are well aware of the breathing issues of many of their clients and many admit to needing working knowledge as to how to best address breathing development.  Michael G. White is approved by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) as a continuing education provider under category A.

Medical Doctors
Please note that our Optimal Breathing Development System increases blood oxygen; improves blood chemistry; increases vital capacity (VC) and tidal volume (TV), decreases Reserve Volume (RV).  It decreases lung dead spaces, restores many salvageable but presently non-functional alveoli; improves breathing coordination; reduces or eliminates breathing pattern disorder, dyspnea and dynamic hyperinflation. It facilitates increased oxygen uptake/utilization (QO2) and strengthens or restores breathing proprioception and kinesthetics.

In  other words, this translates into improved alveolar ventilation, lessened work of breathing, improved dyspnea management, adequate respiratory rest.
A few key words
: corticodiaphragmatic pathway, diaphragm kinetics, dyspnea, hypocapnia, COPD, emphysema, thoracic insufficiency syndrome, chronic fatigue, pulmonary hypoplasia, gastroesophageal reflux, diaphragmatic hernia, diaphragmatic impairment, respiratory pathway, noninvasive ventilation, spirometry.

There are several variations of advanced training levels being added to this page related to Personal Trainers, Singers & Speakers, Specific Modality Requirements, Qigong masters and more.  ALL will begin at the OBDSA and then to OBDS. Advance training levels are in process of being created.

Optimal Breathing teachers must speak from experience. There is no other way. This a VERY experiential training. We use audio and video (including cadaver DVDs)  examples for illustration, live demonstration of techniques, newly developed awareness exercises and personal guidance by the instructors, all designed to enhance each student's breathing development.

All attendees will learn to breathe better, and ways of facilitation in others. They will earn a certification as an Optimal Breathing Development Apprentice, then Specialist using touch and non-touch methods for quickly, safely, painlessly improving breathing, volume, ease, balance, reserve capacity, diaphragm size, singing/voice strength, coordination and clarity.

Improve health professional skills to compete in an ever tighter market by positioning themselves to get better results than their competition.

Testimonials

The combined school core faculty has studied breathing for over 190 years. Its materials, workshops and personal breathing development coaching provide results and insights that are guaranteed to transform your life.

"To laugh often and much, to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children, to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends, to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others, to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden path....to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded!" Emerson
