Virgil Reed, OBDS My study of health and physiology began earnestly at the age of 16. Since then I have received a B.S. in Sports and Fitness Management, Business Administration and a minor in Athletic Training, including 1500 hours of direct clinical experience. I have also completed the first two years of a Masters in Physical Therapy program. I received my massage therapy license this past year from Florida’s Therapeutic Massage School. It is with this seasoned competence that I work with clients today. Currently I am an Optimal Breathing Development Specialist using O.B. as a therapy for 1-on-1 as well as group education. I am a practicing massage therapist, I instruct Yoga and Chi-Kung and offer experiential training in meditation, Mindfulness practices and Yoga Science. My personal journey has taught me much in the world of health and wellness. Through observation and personal growth and development I have chosen to take what has assisted me throughout the years and educate others in these ways. I was diagnosed with severe depression and Seasonal Affective Disorder for 15 years. I rode the "prescription roller coaster" for 10 years until I took it upon myself to mature beyond this state of being toward greater strength physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Breathing is the first aspect I chose to shift after determining that it is no persons’ responsibility but my own for my well being. The current Western medical model and its relationship to breathing and breathing development is sorely lacking proper education, training and direction as far as integrative and holistic approach. Optimal Breathing ® is the link that enables one to fulfill their potential, whether ill or in good health. Once one becomes aware or the relationship between breathing and the Autonomic Nervous System it is clear how this relationship translates to how they manage both their internal and external environment. In turn there is a shift toward a way of being that is natural and intended if we are to live a high quality of life with longevity and vitality. Through use of proprietary exercises and techniques O.B. allows for correction of mechanical breathing dysfunction. This correction then lends to proper posturing and associated shifts in emotion and self understanding. Optimal Breathing is centered on awareness of the process of breathing to ones full potential, capacity and capability as well as developing an appreciation for this process. The process is about understanding and feeling ourselves in our body at a more subtle level. I take full advantage of all opportunity to continue to learn, grow and diversify through discovering life with an open heart, clear mind and genuine spirit for living to my full potential. Only through understanding, feeling and healing yourself may you truly be able to help and allow others to heal themselves. I have and continue to make every effort to ensure this occurs with myself. I have always believed that first person experience can not be taught; rather this must come from understanding individual and holistic processes, living through the first person. Breathing should always be a first person experience and expression. All healing is spiritual healing and all healing is self healing. Email: vreed1@breathing.com
